With our "Project Semester - Made in Germany," we believe in learning by doing. Our program offers a dynamic and flexible approach to higher education, allowing you to tailor your academic and practical experience to your interests and career goals. 

A practical and intercultural Experience

The "Project Semester - Made in Germany" can be structured into components, each designed to enrich your academic and cultural experience:

  • German as a Foreign Language: Immerse yourself in the German language, with options for both beginner and advanced learners. Choose this course to strengthen your language skills and enhance your cultural immersion.

  • Intercultural Communication: Gain valuable skills in understanding and navigating cultural diversity. This course is essential for thriving in a globalized world.

  • Project Management: Learn how to use specific knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to successfully lead and implement your projects.

  • Independent Project Work: Dive into your chosen projects, with flexible options to earn from 6 to 24 ECTS credits (Master students in need of 30 ECTS may skip Modules 2 and 3, but still need to take a German language course in addition). Apply your knowledge in real-world settings.

You can apply for the usual study abroad scholarships (Erasmus+, BWS etc.). Please refer to your adiver of your home university.


There is a new Scholarship opportunity for senior undergraduate or graduate students from partner universities doing the the project semester:

Aalen University offers new scholarships for a project semester in winter term 2024/25 to final year students: Four months of studies with practical projects at Aalen University in Germany will be sponsored (funding period September – December 2024). The total amount of the scholarship is around EURO 5,000 and includes the following payments:

One-time travel allowance (amount depends on your country) € 1.275,00

Monthly scholarship installment for stay of EURO 861,00 € 3.444,00

Monthly insurance allowance of EURO 97,00 € 388,00

It is funded in the program "UAS.International" of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It cannot be combined with other scholarships.

Students can only apply once for this scholarships and the candidates will be chosen by a board.

Apply under international@hs-aalen.de until April 30th, 2024 with a motivation letter. This letter should include your motivation for a project semester (your project plans, professional benefits, preparation so far), your experience with the respective project topic so far, as well as your intercultural competences. Until then, you should also have submitted your CV and transcript of records via the Mobility Online Portal.
