Students from the Welcome Office for International Students East Württemberg (WISO) at Aalen University, together with students from the DHBW Heidenheim and PH Schwäbisch Gmünd, were guests at the companies Teamviewer and Richter Lighting Technologies GmbH. With their intercultural experiences and good knowledge of English, they are in demand as new recruits in the region.

Göppingen/Heubach The need for international co-workers in the region grows; establishing early contact with international students is therefore important for both the companies and also for the upcoming new recruits. Both the Göppingen Technology Champion Teamviewer and the Richter Lighting Technologies GmbH, that produces and develops LED lighting systems, invited 30 students to the „Open Door Day“. Vanessa Anderson, talent acquisition partner of TeamViewer, was enthusiastic: „We are happy that so many students took up our offer, in order to find out more about our company and the career possibilities with us.“

Together with her colleague, Kerstin Markut, she gave the students an overview of the company’s software solutions that have recently gone to the stock exchange. Afterwards, current interns showcased their departments and answered the students‘ questions.

The firm Richter Lighting Technologies GmbH in Heubach also presented themselves to the students and offered them insight into their products and methods of operation. Two international co-workers from Argentina took the time to describe their assignments at the company and to tell about their own experiences upon arrival in the region. Bernd Richter, founder and business leader of Richter Lighting Technologies GmbH, emphasized that international students have good future opportunities here. „In our region, there are interesting companies for international specialists, who speak little or do not yet speak German and whose intercultural competences are highly beneficial for us. Our doors are always open to informative conversations and first acquaintances with young, engaged, and creative people,“ said Richter.

Kunjan Patel showed how fast that can go. The graduate of the Aalen University master degree program Polymer Technology got to know the Firm Richter Lighting Technologies GmbH through the excursion, and won over Richter with his personality straightaway. During the excursion, he was still looking over the shoulder of one of the engineers, and then the next day began as a co-worker. „Such visits to companies are a very worthwhile experience for students,“ said Patel. „It gives us a glimpse into how specific business sectors function and which skills are sought after by employers. Furthermore, conversations with experienced professionals are always of use.“

WISO has devoted itself to supporting companies‘ recruitment of foreign students and graduates. The goal is this: to bring businesses of the region and international students together. The WISO Model Project is funded by the Ministry of Economy, Labor and Housing of the state of Baden-Württemberg. The project partners are from the Business Development Agency East Württemberg (WiRO) and the four state Universities of the region: Aalen University, DHBW Heidenheim, the University for Design Schwäbisch Gmünd, and PH Schwäbisch Gmünd.
