Aalen Optometry Master's course in part-time accredited for a further eight years without conditions

The part-time M.Sc. Vision Science and Business (Optometry) course in Aalen offers a combination of lectures and laboratory events. This enables the students to apply what they have learned directly in their daily work in the optical industry. The clinical part is documented in a "logbook" specially developed for this master's course. This ensures the practical application, practice and consolidation of what has been learned in the lectures. In addition, the teaching and learning forms are very diverse and combine online presence events and e-learning elements. According to the statement in the accreditation report, this part-time Optometry Master's programme is characterised in particular by a high level of teaching and its international character. The broad range of modules allows students to build up in-depth expert know-how in both "Primary Eye Care" and "Vision Therapy". In the discussions with the students, a very high level of enthusiasm for the studies was observed among all of them, according to the Accreditation Commission.

Prof. Dr. Anna Nagl, head of the study programme, is of course very pleased about the successful accreditation from an academic point of view, but also has a next goal in mind: "In addition to the accreditation from an academic point of view, the achievement of the so-called ECOO diploma (European diploma for ophthalmology and optometry) with the completion of this Master's programme in combination with the competences from the Bachelor's programme could be attractive. This process involves a lot of effort and costs for the Master's programme and so we start with the self-assessment and then we look further ahead. Because unlike must-have accreditation from an academic point of view, ECOO accreditation would be nice-to-have, so to speak".

Sunny greetings from Aalen,
Anna Nagl
